After half of the local population was killed during the Battle of Okinawa is would be impossible to imagine that the women did not experience serious trauma with that much displacement in their life. As a result, it would heavily impact the “anti-base” sentiments shown as the US military Occupation authoriies moved in. That being said, I think the US somewhat understood that there would be extreme pushback against their actions. Not only did they lose their land, but they also lost resources that they had to share with the occupying forces, and cope with the loss of members of their communitiy. The occupying forces would just take advantage of that, giving terrible appraisals of their land and taking all of the good land from the locals, leaving them to fight over the leftover scraps.
